In today’s world, we’re often bombarded with information, opinions, and expectations from every angle. It can feel very do do do without much forethought or gut feeling. There’s a constant push to make decisions quickly, act logically, and think strategically. With so much external noise, it’s easy to overlook one of our most powerful tools: intuition.
Intuition, that inner sense of knowing, is often dismissed or ignored, even though it can guide us more reliably than the loudest voices around us. As society grows increasingly complex, learning to trust and strengthen our intuition is becoming not only helpful, but essential.
Good thing then that we have a workshop coming up about just that, from intuition expert Maude Hirst. Her new intuition card deck Intuitive Whispers Oracle from Hay House UK is a must-try, and her workshop at MBS Birmingham, on Saturday 16th November, will show you how to use them or similar at home. A chance to play with beautiful oracle cards with the author themselves?
But what ritual does she recommend doing beforehand? A quick intuition practice she swears by, before getting down to card-reading, is movement. “Put some music you love on, close your eyes and ask your body, how would I move if I was unafraid of judgement?” Maude tells us. “Let your body begin to move intuitively without trying to look good. Instead, focusing on how it feels in the body. The more connected to our intuition we become, the more freedom and trust you will feel through your body.”
We love the sound of that for getting warmed up – read on for more tips perfect for any oracle-card newbie!
Getting Started with Oracle Cards
If you’re new to oracle cards, don’t worry—you don’t need any special knowledge or abilities to start. Here’s a simple way to incorporate them into your daily routine:
Choose a Deck That Resonates with You
Find an oracle card deck that you feel drawn to. It could be based on anything that resonates with you, such as nature, healing, spirituality, or even animals. Choose one that visually appeals to you and feels inviting.
Set an Intention Before Each Reading
Before you pull a card, take a few deep breaths, clear your mind, and set an intention. This could be a question you’re seeking insight on or simply an invitation for clarity. It could even be “what am I having for tea?” - and spirit might inspire you with a whisper of a new dish idea!
Pull a Card and Reflect
Draw a card, look at the imagery, and notice any immediate thoughts or feelings that arise. Don’t overanalyze—just pay attention to your first impressions. Many decks come with a guidebook, but you don’t have to rely on it. Sometimes your own interpretation is more meaningful. Look at the image portrayed, and this can tell you a story in answer to your question or intention. There are no wrong answers here.
Journal Your Insights
Write down what the card meant to you in that moment, how it made you feel, and any realizations it brought to the surface. Journaling helps reinforce intuitive connections, allowing you to track how your insights evolve over time. It’s even handier if you stick to the same deck while you’re pulling daily or nightly cards, too.
Practice Regularly
Like any skill, developing intuition requires consistency. Pull a card daily or weekly to build a habit of listening to your inner voice. Over time, you may find it easier to tune in to your intuition outside of card readings as well. Practise with friends, family or colleagues, and you might even love it so much you decide to go on an official course and start to make it your side-hustle!
And if you’re seeking a way to get started with oracle cards in a fun and friendly environment, book your space in Maude’s intuition workshop on Saturday 16th November at 3.30pm in the Workshop Marquee at MBS Birmingham.
